Lalitha R. Putty (1925 – 2004)

Smt. Lalitha R. Putty was an accomplished hand embroidery artist, best known for her exquisite portrait work. Though she created only a limited number of pieces, each one reflected extraordinary skill, patience, and artistry. Her works, often described as mesmerising, earned top prizes at both state and national levels—an inspiring achievement while balancing the responsibilities of raising six children.

Her husband, Shri Raghoottama Putty, first recognised Lalitha’s exceptional dexterity. A painter himself, he guided and encouraged her to pursue embroidery as an art form. Together, his artistic insight and her perseverance gave rise to embroidery pieces that are as intricate as they are timeless—handcrafted entirely with needle and thread.

Lalitha exhibited her works across India, often alongside the paintings of her husband, creating a shared legacy of art.
